LaPine, Oregon

A two-stoplight town, La Pine, OR, is surrounded by the mountainous Deschutes National Forest and La Pine State Park with multiple campgrounds and opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Wildfire mitigation in La Pine focuses on a variety of strategies to reduce the risk and impact of wildfires. These efforts are driven by local, state, and federal agencies, as well as community organizations. For example, local community groups provide free wildfire fuels reduction services for low-income senior or disabled homeowners.

CPAW partnered with La Pine in 2024 to review the town’s various community plans, including its Community Wildfire Protection Plan and development review process. CPAW will provide recommendations for consistency in language and approach to strengthening wildfire resiliency. Recommendations will include model ordinances for wildfire risk reduction within the urban core with consideration of the need to retain aesthetics of the town.

CPAW will also work closely with the consulting team hired by the city to update its land use codes.
