May, 2018. Following a year-long process of stakeholder engagement and public outreach, Missoula County, Montana adopted a new Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), including a comprehensive risk assessment, developed in partnership with the CPAW program. The CWPP outlines goals and steps the county and partners can take to become better fire-adapted, including applying land use planning tools, increasing wildfire response, and implementing fuels reduction projects. The county also developed an interactive story map to share information about wildfire risk and adaptations. The Western Region National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy notes the Missoula CWPP is a robust plan, stating that a “CWPP that addresses a wide selection of stakeholder roles and actions is a strong tool that can help a community become more fire adapted.”
